The filming start window for 1923 season 2 has been revealed. A spinoff of Taylor Sheridan’s acclaimed Western Yellowstone, 1923 had its first season in late 2022 and early 2023. The debut was relatively well-received, earning Golden Globe nominations for Best Television Series, Drama and Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series, Drama for Helen Mirren. In addition to Mirren, 1923 features a leading cast including Harrison Ford, Brandon Sklenar, Jerome Flynn, Julia Schlaepfer, and Darren Mann.
As per a new document from the City of Austin (via Statesman), 1923’s filming start window has seemingly been revealed. Season 2 will start its production in July in Austin. Filming will continue throughout the summer and finish in September.
All production operations will be based in Austin, with details included within the document. It offered a breakdown of the production’s specifics, including the amount of money that will be spent on paying Greater Austin residents. 1923 season 2 was listed as costing $150 million overall.
When Will 1923 Season 2 Be Released?
1923’s Seasons Might Have A Big Gap Between Them
While this filming update is a positive sign for 1923 season 2, the update did not come with any announcement as to when the project will be released. If filming itself does not wrap up until September, and that’s if things go as planned, and the post-production process goes on for several months after that, 1923 will not be arriving until fairly far into 2025. This will be disappointing to fans of the Yellowstone universe, as it means that 1923 will go over two years between seasons.
That said, Western television genre fans can at least be partially satiated by the fact that Yellowstone season 5 part 2 will be arriving at the end of this year. It will pick up where the first half of season 5 left off before the 2023 Hollywood strikes shut down its production.
It will be the conclusion to the main Dutton storyline, where tensions are currently high. As a result, the 1923 team will have some release leeway, as it would not want to come out too close to Yellowstone’s conclusion.
The release date of 1923 will also have to be weighed up against the other slated Yellowtsone spinoffs. In addition to the already-produced 1883, Yellowstone-based shows operating under the working titles 2024 and 1944 have already been ordered for one season each.
It seems like the production on these series is further off, though the Yellowstone sequel casting has been the subject of news recently. 1923 will likely be the first series to release another season of any Yellowstone spinoff, but the network will have to work to create a quality and cogent release pace.
