1923’s Brandon Sklenar Drops Worrying Spencer Dutton Death Hint in Season 2

1923 star Brandon Sklenar has teased that his character Spencer Dutton will be a different person in season two.

Starring Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, the Yellowstone prequel follows the Dutton family as they deal with the hardships of the Prohibition era and the Great Depression in 1920s Montana.

Following season one’s dramatic finale, Spencer was left in a difficult situation in his quest to get back to the Yellowstone ranch. Aboard a ship with his wife Alexandra, the pair run into trouble after a fateful altercation with Alexandra’s former fiancé Arthur sees the pair separated and Spencer rowed back to shore – with the pair vowing to reunite in Bozeman.

As fans are eager to see if the beloved couple survived the journey, Spencer star Sklenar opened up about his character’s fate.

Without giving too much away, he told Deadline: “Spencer is pretty resilient, but no one is off the table.

“If you know Taylor [Sheridan]’s writing, anything can happen at this point,” the actor teased.

However, in an interview with TVLine, Sklenar has hinted at more hardships to come, saying that Spencer will be a “different man” when we see him again in season two.

“He’s at such a loss at that point, it’s as if he’s lost everything, and he feels like it’s his fault,” he said.

“At the end there, when they’re separated, he is pretty much in a place where he’s not sure that he’ll ever see her again at all, or if he’s ever going to see his family.”

Sklenar also touched on Spencer’s fears about what exactly he’ll find should he manage to make it home, given Alexandra’s uncertain future and his ageing relatives.

“Every minute he’s not there is one minute closer to them not being there, and those stakes are there,” the actor continued.

“So, the shift that he goes through at the end of this finale is so massive. He’s a different man when we find him again in part 2. Definitely.”
