7 Little Johnstons’ Liz and Brice Want a Baby Boy for Their First Child (Exclusive)

In PEOPLE’s exclusive clip, Liz explains that she wants to emulate her mother, Amber, and welcome a baby boy for her first child

Liz Johnston and Brice Bolden are waiting with baited breath to learn the sex of their first child!

In PEOPLE’s exclusive sneak peek into Tuesday’s episode of 7 Little Johnstons, the couple attend an ultrasound appointment to find out whether or not they’ll be welcoming a girl or a boy. The clip begins with the duo listening to their baby’s heartbeat. As the sound of the quick little thumping fills the room, Liz and Brice’s eyes fill with awe.

“Wow,” Liz smiles before Brice looks at the monitor and repeats her sentiments.

“I mean, hearing the heartbeat in the sonograms, it’s very sweet,” Liz tells the cameras. “It’s just the honest truth that there’s something growing inside of me and it’s a part of me and it’s part of Brice.”

When the healthcare provider asks if the couple is ready to find out the sex of their unborn child, Liz enthusiastically shares that they’re ready to know. While they wait for the fetus to get into the right position, Brice admits that he’s hoping for a boy.

“I’m feeling nervous because I’ll be happy with both,” he explains in a joint confessional. “I would prefer a boy but I’m still nervous because just you know seeing it on the ultrasound, there’s just nothing like it.”

Liz also agrees with Brice’s sentiment and reveals that she’d like to have a baby boy in anticipation of having a similar experience as her mother Amber’s own journey with motherhood.

“I’m hoping for a boy just because [Brice] has strong male jeans on his side of the family,” she grins. “And then also because since my mom had Jonah first, and everybody says ‘Oh, you’re always like your mother,’ and so I’m thinking, ‘Okay, I’m probably going to end up having a boy.'”

Despite their initial preferences, PEOPLE confirmed that the couple had welcomed their daughter, Leighton Drew Bolden, on Friday, Nov. 3.

In their own conversation with PEOPLE in March, Liz’s parents Amber and Trent Johnston revealed how “awesome” it’s been to see their daughter settle into her new role as a mother.

“She is a great mom, and I knew that she was going to do amazing, and she really has,” Amber said with a smile. “I will say that her and I have probably become even closer because now that she’s a mom, she’s like, ‘I get it, Mom.’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah, good. I’m glad because just wait until she’s 16.'”

“But it is amazing to watch your kids become parents,” Trent raved. “And Elizabeth is a nurse and she already has a huge tender love and caring bone in her body, and that helps to be a mom too.”
