‘Doubling Down With the Derricos’ Deon Asks for Prayers Amid Nephew Amani’s Health Battle
Between his divorce from Karen Derrico and his mother Marian “GG” Derrico‘s cancer, Deon Derrico has had a rough few months. However, the Doubling Down With the Derricos star recently revealed his nephew, Amani, is also facing a serious health battle—and Deon asked fans for prayers in his latest update.
On July 14, the father of 14 took to Instagram with behind-the-scenes footage from Season 3 of his family’s TLC series.
“Visiting my Hometown #Detroit aka #Motown / #TheMotorCity so that me and my family could meet my Nephew #AmaniBarkley in person for the first time!” Deon wrote in the caption. “He wanted to do face painting and I was soooo happy spending this Quality Time with him, this scene took place prior to taking him to visit his father (My Brother) Christopher Turner’s burial site! Which was a truly emotional scene following this exciting and fun moment.”
To conclude his message, he added: “And now we find ourselves here praying that Amani, won’t be joining his father just yet!! This has been absolutely devastating on our family and we are still humbled in knowing that we have all of our fans love and support!! Please let’s pray….”

The day before, Deon also requested prayers for his nephew, captioning an Instagram video with, “#TheDERRICOs Please Pray for my nephew Amani Barkley!!!🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽.”
“So many of you have been inundating our DMs with questions about Amani,” he said in the clip, thanking followers for their “donations and love.”
“As of today, talking with Amani’s mother…it’s not looking good at all. He had sepsis, as I was telling you guys a couple of days ago, and then he got better from that. The liver transplant itself is good. We haven’t had a problem with that.”
GG explained that Amani is now fighting an infection in his brain and likely in “other parts of his body.”
Deon added, “This is just such a heartbreaking situation…We’re basically on a watch for his health over this weekend…It just doesn’t look good.”
As of writing, Deon has not shared further updates about Amani’s health.

In the comments, fans showered Deon with words of encouragement. One wrote, “Love you guys and sending prayers and love to u all. I’m still trusting God to show up and out for your nephew. Our God is an awesome and loving God that can do anything❤️🙏🏽❤️🙏🏽.”
