‘Doubling Down With the Derricos’ Deon Derrico Shares New Health Update on Nephew Amani

Deon and his mother shared the update from the airport as they traveled to visit Amani in the hospital.

Deon Derrico is making sure to keep fans apprised as he and his family continue to pray for his nephew Amani.

The Doubling Down With the Derricos patriarch took to Instagram with his latest update on the afternoon of Wednesday, July 17, while he and his mother, Marian “GG” Derrico, were waiting to board their connecting flight in Chicago as the pair traveled from Las Vegas to Detroit to visit with the young man in the hospital.

Deon posted what seemed to be a screen recording from a previous livestream, where the pair admitted that there wasn’t much to share at that point, as Amani’s health had been yoyoing in the previous days, and his medical care team went back and forth over whether the family should travel to be by his side.

He revealed that “Amani wasn’t doing good” at first, “then they said he’s doing good, then they said he’s not doing good, and it’s literally been back and forth this entire time.” Because of the uncertainty, he and his mother chose to just head that way since they had suggested originally that “family should be here,” and planned to “go straight from the airport in Detroit to the hospital.”

They promised another update to come sometime today, July 18, though it hasn’t been posted at the time of writing.

In the meantime, they ask fans and followers to continue to pray for Amani and his family. “Prayer is really, really powerful,” Deon said. “This has been very scary as many of you can imagine; it’s been extremely scary—it’s still scary.” But they’re holding out hope, as well, because, while Amani is very sick, suffering what Deon described as “brain fog,” and not talking when spoken to, he is following his mother and grandmother, as well as squeezing their hands.

As GG pointed out, “Amani is strong, but his body has been through so much, it’s weakened him down a lot.”

Amani has been hospitalized since undergoing his second and third liver transplants within a very short period of time earlier this summer. Unfortunately, he battled a sepsis infection after the fact, and is now fighting an infection in his brain and likely in “other parts of his body,” according to his uncle.
