This Morning legend makes shock EastEnders appearance – but fans seriously divided

EastEnders fans were left speechless halfway through Monday’s episode (September 16) of the soap, following an appearance from a This Morning favourite

EastEnders fans were left in shock after a This Morning legend made a surprise appearance on the soap.

The beloved BBC One programme returned to screens on Monday (September 16) and followed the fallout of Anna Knight’s (Molly Rainford) pregnancy bombshell. Fans will recall she found out she was pregnant last week with Bobby Beale’s (Clay Milner Russell) baby – but actually has feelings for his best pal Freddie Slater (Bobby Brazier).

However, it’s fair to say it was another moment on yeh soap that got plenty of people talking – and it involved a cameo from a telly icon. During the episode, Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) was seen listening to the radio in her cafe.

Playing himself off-screen, Dermot O’Leary then appeared as a radio presenter holding a competition to win a holiday to Greece. He said: “What links these three words – mincing, frying pan, little Britain?” Referring to the holiday on offer, Dermot added: “A trip for two, sun, sea sand, you know the rest…”

Kathy was stumped on the question – but with the help of cabby Harvey Monroe (Ross Boatman) she got the answer right: London streets. Later Kathy received a call and from Dermot and was live on the radio.

The This Morning star then asked her another question to win the sun-soaked holiday. Kathy didn’t know the answer to that one either, but Harvey did. Luckily, he was able to help her again and she won the holiday, but Kathy decided to give him the trip.

Dermot’s cameo in EastEnders didn’t go unnoticed by fans watching at home. Rushing to social media, they soon shared their thoughts. On an EastEnders online fan forum, one person mused: “It was stupid. Made an unbelievably bad episode even more unbelievable.” Someone else added: “That whole thing was garbage.”

A third angry fan wrote: “Just when you think the writing on Eastenders couldn’t get any more dire, we are meant to believe Anna and Bobby have actually had sex, and then Kathy randomly wins a holiday courtesy of Dermot O Leary?? Surely it’s got to get better soon.”

However, different fans thought otherwise. A fourth person penned: “Loved the Dermot O Leary cameo tonight. Very funny and a great way towards reconciliation for Jean & Harvey as well.

A fifth wrote: “Dermot O’Leary making a voice cameo was the best part about tonight’s episode.” A sixth person chimed in and penned: “The random cameo of Dermot O’Leary calling kathy for the radio quiz?!”

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer
