EastEnders icon Lee MacDonald, who used to play the role of a bus driver, Terry, on the BBC One soap in 2019, recently shared updates on his health. The actor is best known for his role as Zammo McGuire on the show Grange Hill and he announced that he is battling skin cancer. The actor played a small but important stint on EastEnders. Legend Lee MacDonald Shared Updates On His Health

The 56-year-old star was part of several storylines on Grange Hill; he was a troubled school pupil, Zammo, for five years between 1982 and 1987. Viewers saw his character getting involved in a heroin addiction storyline which inspired a campaign against drug abuse. As for his stint on EastEnders, Lee’s character Terry was tracked down by Mick Carter to buy Spice Girls tickets from when the duo participated in the same radio competition.

After he refused to sell those tickets, Mick came back, but later, Terry came by and told him that his wife wasn’t really a fan and gave the tickets to the pub landlord. The whole Carter family was thankful to him as they dressed up as the Spice Girls and headed to the concert to dance to ‘Who Do You Think You Are.’

While speaking about his battle with cancer, Lee took to X (formerly Twitter) and shared updates with his fans. He wrote, ‘Went to the doctors today to check an unusual spot on my face! Doctor says it’s cancer! As we older please keep an eye on anything unusual and hopefully get it looked at early!!! Booked in to get it sorted over the next couple of days!’ His shocking diagnosis received a lot of love and support from his followers.

The actor has been through several ups and downs in his career. In an interview with fansite Grange Hill Gold, Lee shared his struggle of getting work as a result of the drugs story backlash. As per reports, after MacDonald’s new series was released, his agent said, “Nobody wants you any more because it’s a drugs-related character. So nobody wants to use you. I lost loads of work because adults didn’t want me at the club because it was drugs-related. But that’s the power of telly – more so in the 80s when there were only a couple of channels.”

As of now, Lee has left the entertainment industry and currently runs his own locksmith company in Surrey and is married to his girlfriend of ten years, Jess. Grange Hill and EastEnders fans definitely miss watching him on the show. We wish Lee a speedy and successful recovery.
